Frequently Asked Questions

What is Grassroots4GVP?

Grassroots4GVP is a group of volunteers committed to ending gun violence in Massachusetts and across the US.

How does Grassroots4GVP work to end gun violence?

We are focused on four pillars to end gun violence:

  1. Legislation: We advocate for gun violence prevention legislation, like the recently passed Massachusetts House Act Modernizing Firearm Laws H.4135, the Massachusetts Senate Safer Act S.2584 amendment, and the Massachusetts Act Modernizing Firearm Laws

  2. Elections: We work to elect local, state, and national candidates who are committed to ending gun violence.

  3. Strategic Partners: We collaborate with and support gun violence survivors and other organizations that share our mission to keep all communities safe from gun violence.

  4. Public Education: We work to inform communities about ways to end gun violence, including Emergency Risk Protection Orders, safe firearm storage education, and letters to the editor.

How did Grassroots4GVP come to be?

Many of us are former long-time volunteer leaders with Moms Demand Action. While we feel we accomplished a lot as part of that organization, we found that we wanted to take a more grassroots approach to prevent gun violence, and respond quickly to our volunteers’ and partners’ interests and concerns. We look forward to continuing our partnerships with GVP organizations and political leaders in Massachusetts and nationally.

Can I join Grassroots4GVP and still be a Moms Demand Action / Everytown volunteer?

Yes, absolutely.

Gun violence prevention advocacy is already fractured. Doesn’t another group like Grassroots4GVP just add to the problem?

We are acutely aware of this issue and work closely with other groups so we're supportive, not duplicative. Our group has more flexibility and less bureaucracy that may allow us to do more.

    Is Grassroots4GVP a 501(c)(3) organization?

Grassroots4GVP is fiscally sponsored by Newtown Action Alliance. They help us with accounting and tax reporting so we can concentrate on the critical work of preventing gun violence. That means we can accept 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(3) donations.

(A 501(c)(4) donation is the most flexible kind of donation you can give us; however, it is not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution or business expense. If you'd rather make a tax-deductible donation, please do so on our 501(c)(3) page.)

How can I get involved in Grassroots4GVP's work?

If you want to become a part of Grassroots4GVP we would love to have you join us! You can start by joining our Facebook Group, and subscribing to our email list. We are a brand new, all volunteer run organization, so we appreciate your patience as we set up our infrastructure and get things going!

    Can I donate to Grassroots4VP?
