Grassroots for Gun Violence Prevention Launches in Massachusetts to Bring New Urgency and Focus to Community-Focused Activism

The new group empowers its volunteers to take local actions that create an impact in communities throughout the Commonwealth

Boston, MA, Wednesday, May 29: Today Grassroots for Gun Violence Prevention (Grassroots4GVP), a new advocacy group formed by seasoned activists, launches in Massachusetts. The new group’s mission is to harness everyday people-power to free all communities from gun violence. Anyone interested in joining Grassroots4GVP can sign up here.

“Grassroots4GVP believes empowered volunteers are essential to creating change locally,” said Jen Robinson, founding volunteer for Grassroots for Gun Violence Prevention. “Unlike other national groups, we empower our volunteers to quickly and effectively respond to community and legislative needs, taking powerful local actions that make an immediate impact.”

Already 500 volunteers strong and growing, Grassroots4GVP focuses on legislation, electing leaders who will champion gun safety legislation, public education around secure storage and extreme risk protection orders, and supporting survivors and strategic partners in their work to keep their communities safe. Its founding team has more than 325 years of gun violence prevention volunteering experience and is known and trusted by school systems, state and local governments, and community-based organizations across the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Grassroots4GVP is a member of the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and a partner of Newtown Action Alliance.

Current initiatives involve urging state legislators to swiftly reconcile and pass the omnibus gun safety bill before the end of the current legislative season, as well as local actions around the Mass Democratic State Convention on June 1, National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 7, and Wear Orange weekend on June 7-9. Information about how to get involved in current actions can be found here and the Grassroots4GVP blog rounds up recent news and community activities, showcasing local impact.
