Grassroots4GVP Joins Newton Action Alliance Chairwoman Po Murray and Board Member Carol Wakeman
On Tuesday, June 4, Grassroots for Gun Violence Prevention joined our national partner Newtown Action Alliance at a fundraiser hosted by Boston Families For Gun Safety at The Urban Grape in Boston.
This was our third fundraising event at The Urban Grape and guests heard from Newtown Action Alliance chairwoman Po Murray on the group's work to enact a federal ban on assault weapons.
Bold Action for an Assault Weapons Ban
Po's words struck fundraiser attendees as she described the advocacy by Newton Action Alliance as being "unapologetically bold," as the group has continually pushed for a ban on assault weapons, even when larger gun violence prevention organizations have called it "untenable."
Po added that as survivors have gone to Congress and Washington, DC, they have continued to push for bold change, and the funds from the fundraiser will help pay for survivors of gun violence to go to DC for the 12th Annual National Vigil For All Victims of Gun Violence on December 12, the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
